Ellion, the friendly astronautIn order to immerse the children into the story, the 'kids in space' app uses a character named Ellion to whom children can relate over the course of the app-provided storyline.
The name was chosen to sound like the English word "alien" and the Greek titan of the sun "Helios". The graphic design was kept as neutral as possible so that Ellion can be considered fully gender-neutral, and has no specified ethnicity. This way, children from all backgrounds can easily relate to the character. |
The storyThe app and the coursebook are both divided in four chapters. In the first chapter the children learn about the Solar System. In the second chapter, the teacher can teach the children about gravity and how modern rockets escape Earth's gravity well, in order to travel to the Moon or other celestial bodies.
The third chapter then brings children to the Moon. This chapter mainly deals in ways the spacecraft can land safely on the Moon or other surfaces. In chapter four, the children will be presented several problems about Lunar survival, to which they will have to find solutions using several experiments. In the end, they will have travelled to and survived on the Moon. |
